Before the Wedding Day

Upon request, I meet with each couple to help answer any questions you may have in regards to your Wedding Day. I will cover what to expect, important issues that may arise, and wedding ceremony details. I will provide personal experience to help with plans for a memorable and meaningful Wedding Ceremony that is uniquely yours.

Get a Marriage License – Here`s How

Step 1. Ensure you are eligible to apply for a marriage licence

  • The marriage must be taking place in Alberta within the next 3 months.
  • Before applying, ensure you and your intended spouse are eligible.

Step 2. Gather your documents

  • Take your acceptable ID with you to get the marriage licence.
  • Other documents may be needed, such as divorce documents.
  • Contact a registry agent, they can confirm what documents you will need.
  • Check for details of eligibility and acceptable ID online at

Step 3. Go to a registry agent office

  • Go to a any Registry Agent in the Province of Alberta together with your intended spouse, acceptable ID and documents, and apply for a marriage licence.
  • A marriage licence is issued while you wait. If you do not have all the information and documents needed, the process will be delayed.
  • Bring your marriage licence to our meeting which will enable me to ready your paperwork for your wedding day. A marriage licence shows me that you have met all the legal requirements to be married in Alberta.
  • Upon request (additional cost), I will oversee the Wedding Rehearsal (usually the day before).

On the Wedding Day

According to plan, I will be present at least one-half hour before the Wedding Ceremony is to begin. This ensures the room and setting are as planned (I`m happy to work along with your Wedding Coordinator, Photographers, Videographers, DJ’s and Live Musicians). I will be dressed as a professional – after all, you are getting married!  And finally, I will stick to your plan – no surprises!

During a civil ceremony, each person getting married is required to declare the following two legislated statements in front of their intended spouse, both witnesses and the marriage commissioner:

  • I do solemnly declare that I do not know of any lawful impediment why I, (full name) may not be joined in matrimony to (full name).
  • I call on those persons present to witness that I, (name), do take you, (name) to be my lawful wedded (wife/husband/spouse).

Following your Wedding Day

As the law requires, within 48 hours, I will mail the original marriage documents to the Alberta government. Finally, I will also remain available if needed to answer any questions relating to your marriage. This may include name changes, licensing, or just to chat if there may be any other questions. I genuinely enjoy the opportunity of serving you to make your wedding the best!
